Book Publicity Testimonials

The only reason I'm writing this endorsement for Susan Schwartzman is because I like her.  The truth is, I really don't want to write this.

See, I want to keep her to myself.

Susan Schwartzman is the best independent freelance book publicist in the business.  How do I know this?  Well, I've hired other book publicists, including some of the biggest names in the business, and they got me nothing, or next to nothing.

But this time I hired Susan.  Thank God.  There's no one like her.

She booked me on major TV and radio shows in each of my tour cities.  She got me a review in Cosmopolitan magazine.  She got me on CNN Headline News and on CNBC.  And the list goes on and on.

She's able to do all this because she's smart, creative, incredibly persistent, always thinking of interesting angles - and she doesn't take no for an answer. She was also able to work really well with my in-house publicists, which was crucial.

You're thinking, “Sure, you're a NYT bestselling novelist, it's easy for her.”  Wrong.  It's really hard to get publicity for writers of fiction.  Most publicists strike out. But not Susan. In fact, one of the biggest reasons I hit the New York Times bestseller list this year was because of Susan's extraordinary publicity efforts.

If she'll take you on, you simply can't do better.
Joseph Finder,  New York Times bestselling author of Killer Instinct, Company Man, Paranoia, and High Crimes.

Smartest phone call I've made all Spring was to you, Susan!
Steven Raichlen, bestselling author of The Barbecue! Bible and host of PBS' Primal Grill - Season 2

I can't recommend Susan Schwartzman enough. She gets you noticed by all the right people, in all the right places. I will definitely be calling on her again.

author, The King of Swords and Mr. Clarinet
My co-author and I have published two books during the past two years based upon our combined 60+ years of experience with the FBI prior to our retirement in the spring of 2001. The first book, Hunting the American Terrorist, the FBI's War on Homegrown Terror, was published in September, 2007. We depended upon the publisher to exclusively handle the PR for the book. The publisher hired a PR firm that promised at least 10 radio spots with top stations in various markets around the country as well as television and print media exposure. The firm was awful. We did have one appearance on Fox and Friends in New York and did 3 or 4 radio shows, but did not get any printed media exposure at all for our efforts. Repeated attempts to coordinate with the firm and get better results failed, with representatives making themselves difficult to reach and generally unhelpful and unconcerned.

So, when our second book, Homeland Insecurity, How Washington Politicians have Made America Less Safe, was nearing publication this past September, we decided to hire our own PR firm and through a reference located Susan Schwartzman. The results speak for themselves. Between September, 2008 and as recently as three weeks ago, my co-author and I have done approximately four dozen radio interviews in markets throughout the country, to include NPR and several of the top shows in a number of cities; made the rounds of all of the major network affiliate morning shows in Washington, D.C. ; Seattle, and the San Francisco Bay area; and have seen several tremendous reviews in the print media about the book, including an online review by Publisher's Weekly and an article in the Huffington Post.

The best thing about all of this has been that Homeland Insecurity has ranked in the top ten percent of Amazon since it was published and Hunting the American Terrorist, with a foreword by former FBI Director Louis Freeh has bounced back into the top ten percent of Amazon rankings as well. Recently, both books placed in the top 100 for a brief period in the law enforcement and/or political category in Amazon. As a result my co-author, Kathleen Puckett and I have signed an agreement to become Adjunct Professors with Alliant International University, where we will conduct domestic and international terrorism seminars on a broad array of topics. (All a direct result of Susan's hard work and efforts on our behalf).

While the work that Susan Schwartzman did speaks for itself, the intangible aspect of working with her is less obvious unless you are there. Susan is a person of the utmost integrity, has a great sense of humor under all kinds of pressures, never gives up in her efforts to contact and then re-contact a multitude of people at radio, television, and print media organizations, and is tirelessly dedicated to helping her clients get everything (and more) than they pay for. My co-author and I are hoping to publish a third book sometime late this year. We sincerely hope that Susan will have the time to take us on as clients once again.

We have the highest respect for her, and have absolutely no hesitation in providing our highest recommendation to you.
Terry D. Turchie  & Kathleen M. Puckett, Phd, former FBI Agents, authors of Homeland Insecurity

If I hadn't had a publicist before you, I would have known you were good - no, make that great - but I may not have realized that you are truly head and shoulders above. Anyone can say they're great, but so far, you have been the one who has come through. Right from the beginning, I felt that you had a handle on how to get the message out, and you've not disappointed. Thank you so much!

I can wholeheartedly recommend Susan.  She is a one-woman PR SWAT team.  I was very pleased with her work.  She got me several TV appearances in several cities (including major markets like Boston and Chicago), as well as national print coverage.  She was incredibly well organized, and very much available to me whenever I needed her.  My emails to her were always returned within hours, if not sooner.  From the outset, she was very honest about the markets that would be toughest (N.Y. and L.A.), but worked her tail off to try and get me coverage in even those difficult markets.

My book is geared towards a niche market.  My publisher is huge but didn't have the desire to concentrate on promoting my little book.  Susan stepped in and filled the void perfectly, getting word out to my audience in a way that would never have happened without her.  Her price is more than fair; I absolutely got my money's worth in her excellent work.

When I first hired Susan Schwartzman my expectations of her were high.  She managed to exceed every single one of them.  She got me so many placements, interviews and book signings that it literally became difficult to keep them all straight.  My agent summed it up nicely when she told me that the smartest business move I ever made was to hire Susan Schwartzman.

Like many first time authors I had no idea of what to expect from a publicist, but Susan assured me that she would give my book  the attention it deserves. That she did and more. Susan arranged numerous radio interviews and had the book reviewed in nationally known newspapers. I look forward to hiring her again for my next book.

I've been thinking that it might be time for some of [our authors] to consider hiring a publicist.  The reason I mention this is that one of our newest writers Kyra Davis whose first book SEX, MURDER AND A DOUBLE LATTE has the best publicist I've ever seen.  Red Dress Ink has done a lot of publicity on their own...but Susan has gotten Kyra on talk shows, book signings all over the country―and in Europe...Suffice it to say Kyra is going to be big and I think a lot of it has to do with the great help of her publicist. Of course, like the rest of you, that she is talented and has written a great book goes without saying.  In any case I thought some of you might greatly benefit by talking with Susan to get specific information directly from her.  She has not asked me to email anyone, but I am so impressed I'm taking it upon myself to pass along her information...I'm sure she'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.  Just let her know you're with our agency.  Warm regards to all, Irene

"Susan Schwartzman is fabulous! She took my book to exceptional heights due to her talent, tenacity and tremendous contacts. Her vision was exact and her ability to juggle the two million balls of media attentions was phenomenal. I know for a fact half the readers would never  have even heard of my book had it not been for Susan Schwartzman and her incredible publicity. She came well recommended from a friend who wrote a bestseller, and even as thrilled as he was with her wonderful work, words could not describe the heart and brains she puts into her everlasting efforts."

It's been a pleasure working with Susan. She really goes the extra mile- make that extra ten miles- for her clients. In an era when the publishing industry is contracting, you really need someone like Susan behind your book. She can make all the difference for your success.

"When in search for a publicist to help launch my new and updated version of Bloodtypes, Bodytypes and You, I was given your name by a very credible source. Little did I realize at the time, what a huge return I was going to get for my money. As an author in need of publicity and visibility in the media you have certainly exceeded all of my expectations. Booking me on CNN Headline News and CNN Radio and then sending me out on that 6 city tour—Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, San Diego and Denver—where you managed to book me on every ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX affiliate had allowed me to accomplish all my objectives! You are unequivocally the most tenacious and aggressive publicist in the business. See you with my next book."

"Susan is a book publicity dynamo who was able to uncover promotional opportunities that would otherwise seem farfetched for a piece of fiction - TV, radio, newspaper interviews, Susan pursued them all. Even six months after my book was published, Susan was still capable of drumming up interest from high profile sources. Best of all, I felt like Susan was always looking out for me. Next time I won't wait until the book has been out a few months - she'll be working her magic for me the minute the book hits the shelves."

"Having written four cookbooks, I had, unfortunately, come to expect very little from the efforts of a book publicist. So, when The New York Cabbie Cookbook was ready to go to press I had a rather ho-hum attitude when Susan Schwartzman first called me. Was I ever wrong! This lady really knows how to sell a book! I am thrilled with the response to the book and sales that can only be attributed to her efforts.

"Susan Schwartzman helped me to achieve one of my toughest goals--a third printing of my novel, DIARY OF A MANHATTAN CALL. As a first-time novelist, I needed a well-informed, diligent book publicist. Susan is that publicist! She is more than a miracle worker--she is a hard-working team player who gives 150% to her authors."

"Susan has great contacts in the industry and she works incredibly hard for all her authors. Despite the difficulty of marketing fiction, she got me into print, television and radio spots, and didn't give up until she felt like I'd had a certain level of exposure. I'd recommend Susan to any author hoping to improve sales."

"Susan Schwartzman is a public relations expert who works diligently to promote my books to everyone who will listen. Beyond that, she is a caring, sensitive professional who is a true "foodie" at heart. Her ability to pick up the phone and talk to radio and television producers in minutes, as well as her unique and wide range of promotional opportunities has put my book in front of countless numbers of cookbook lovers which in turn has impacted book sales. I am fortunate to be among her list of most accomplished clients."

"I am a host of a cable cooking show in Arlington Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex area) called Cookin' with Carol. It is a real pleasure to work with Susan Schwartzman and the authors she represents. Susan's work ethic is apparent from her initial enthusiasm and knowledge about the authors she represents which then flows throughout the entire process with continued enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism. Her authors have mirrored the same work ethic and provided our show with exciting and informative presentations.  And Susan keeps on top of the progress of scheduling the interview, which I am sure her cookbook authors appreciate. Considering all of this it is easy to see why Susan Schwartzman of Susan Schwartzman Public Relations is so successful."

"During the few years I have known Susan electronically, she has been a great source of knowledge and help to me.  With her background and list of books, she has relieved me of a lot of headaches as she guided me in focusing on subjects and authors so I could develop an hour-long show that was entertaining and informative to the listening audience. She has been invaluable to me."
